Last August I and some friends attended the dual sport event at Mt Shasta Ski park. I was on a Triumph Tiger and I soon found out that this was the wrong bike for this type of event. I managed to ride some of the routes, but I missed most of the good stuff. However, this event stirred something up in me and I began thinking about getting the proper bike for this sport. Fast forward to today, I made arrangements to drive to southern California tomorrow to buy a used Suzuki DRZ 400. It has most or all of the mods I would be putting on a bike to ride dual sport event and rides for a very reasonable price. I can't wait to get started at this fantastic sport and way of life. I will be a noob, beginner, greenhorn at this type of riding and I am probably quite late in life to start this kind of riding, but I am going to do it. I'm looking forward to participating in the local dual sport events as well as getting out and riding on my own in the surrounding area of Burney where I live. Mike Benzon Burney, CA

Well, I am the proud owner of a 2000 DRZ 400S Suzuki dual sport. It is well sorted out or farkled as we like to refer to in other forums. It has a Clark 3.9 gal fuel tank, Scott steering stablizer, FMF power core 4 silencer, Pro taper bars, bark busters and deflecters, wide pegs and some other minor items I can't remember. The motor is bone stock with the exception of a mod to the air filter box and some carb jetting. Time to ride! File Attachment(s):

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum. There isn't a lot of activity in this forum, sadly.
I owned a 2000 DRZ400S for a few years, great bike, reliable, comfortable and not a lot of maintenance needed. Sounds like you have all the mods they needed.
Troy and I are taking this year light as far as putting on dual sport rides (we did the one you mention in Mt. Shasta). Might do one out to the coast similar to the Sheetiron. Will probably do the big bike weekend ride again.
Ride as much as you can, join the Redding Dirt Riders if you haven't (good way to find folks in your area to ride with), ride as much as you can and try to ride as much as you can!
