Hi all, I just joined. My name is Mike and I live in Burney. I ride a Triumph Tiger dualsport or as some call them, an adventure bike. It's big and heavey and not really a dirt bike, but I enjoy riding the forest service and desert roads. I hope to join in on some rides that fit the limitations of the Tiger. I also have a 1974 Yamaha 250cc trials bike that needs a lot of work. I hope to someday have it running so I can enjoy some of the single track riding.
Mike

Welcome Mike! The RDR has two dual sport rides scheduled this year through AMA, June 6/7th and Sept. 12/13th. Many members that have plated bikes also ride in the Redding area with Norcal Dual Sport, there is a yahoo group you can join and it's a good way of finding rides to join. That group is hereHope to see you soon! Karl

Well, another newbie to the forum here as well... I've been up in this area for over a year, but haven't hooked up on any real riding, other than the logging roads around my house...
So, of course, I am wanting to ride! I'm up in Manton near Shingletown... Feel free to email me at paulskirocks @ gmail . com

Another Rookie here...
Greetings. I joined your mail list recently and am now registered for the forum. I very much appreciate the mailings. Unfortunately none of the upcoming events are possible for me due to calendar conflicts and my location (which is in San Francisco), but look forward to making one of your events at some point.
Question for folks in the know though... It seems like folks on RDR are oriented to running some pretty extreme dual sport rides - Lots of single track and more pure off-road riding with pavement to tie things together. I say that based on the descriptions and pictures - all guys on KTM four strokes 525 and under.
At the other end of the dual sport spectrum are big bike rides (generally speaking) oriented towards GS's, which doesn't seem to be where the RDR rides are oriented (not passing judgement in any way - simply an observation). I fit somewhere in between - I'm a pretty experienced dirt rider - have participated in and finished several D36 enduro's - ride a 200EXC for off-road and I've got an HP2, which I find I can take most places that other guys can go on 650's. Do you have many riders that fall into that category (i.e. the "650 category" for lack of a better label) and if so, are there options available on your more technical rides for bikes of that size.
Again thanks for the updates. I really appreciate the attitude/approach the RDR folks take and look forward to joining you at some point.

Fred, welcome!
Based on what you've written, you'll do fine on our rides!
The upcoming "Buckhorn Dual Sport" is named after the RDR "Buckhorn Enduro" we used to do and those were gnarly. We have a reputation to uphold, so we're billing this ride as advanced. The other reason is that this is part of the KTM National Dual Sport Series and those are typically more technical.
We see 650s show up and roost the 525s and also have folks on 525s show up that are new to riding. We always provide alternate routes around the more difficult sections where possible. Sometimes there is only one way from point A to point B so we can't do this, but if it's really ugly we don't route that way. We don't want people getting hurt.
Pavement destroys knobbies so we try to avoid it. While our events are not intended for adventure bikes, many members in our club own them and we may put on rides in the future that are geared toward pavement and fire roads (especially if the Forest Service closes all of our single track trails).
Check out norcaldualsport.com also, I think they'll do custom tours and they know this area really well.
Hope this helps, if not give this thread a reply.

Karl, Thanks for the reply. I look forward to joining you at some point. I really love the part of California where you ride (reside) and have always wanted to explore it and so very much look forward to being with a group that knows the terrain. I'll keep an eye out on your site (and this forum) for upcoming events/rides, (any rides later in the fall?). Thanks again for the reply and all the best. -Fred karl wrote:Fred, welcome!

Attended the meeting last night and joined the club afterwards.
Karl, thank you for the pizza! My son Joey and I enjoyed it.
Been around dirt bikes since early 70's. I grew up in the Detroit Michigan area and rode the forest around Mio and West Branch. A couple of enduros in my younger days and once the Jack Pine route. Moved to CA in 1983. Been through about a dozen motorcycles including 3 harleys.
Currently have in the stable;
4 quads...2ea Suzuki LTR 450, a Kaw LTZ 400 and a Suzuki LT 250, 2 motorcycles...2002 Honda CR250 (green sticker) and a 2005 KTM 525, CA plated.
Just an average rider that enjoys getting out. My hot hog days are over, just want to enjoy the ride.
I will be attending club meetings as often as I can. and always interested in a ride. Send me an email if you need a riding partner.
